As Paul Harvey used to say, this is the “rest of the story” behind this picture (the precise spot!) from my long-time client and friend Daren (slightly edited for space contraints):
“The first trip of the year and already a new story. I spent this morning trying to put my thoughts into words but it hasn’t been easy!
It all began last night as the sun was setting into a glorious, colorful view. I excitedly headed out to a place on the trail that I remembered from past trips.
I told myself to pick up the pace since the sun was almost down and I had just ten minutes max to set up a shot. I reached a good possible view point and I began setting up my camera.
The colors were really starting to come alive and I began clicking away with a big smile on my face. It was just one of those moments when you know the timing is perfect. I had just made my third exposure when I heard…
GROWL!!
Yep, looked to my right and saw a FULL SIZE Mountain Lion, just ten feet away, with a half-eaten rabbit clutched in her paws.
At least it looked like a rabbit but I DIDN’T ASK!!
As my mind took over, I knew she had been staring at me since I arrived. It was about five minutes before I saw her.
She was **%#@ HUGE!!
For a moment neither one of us moved an inch, both the big cat and I staring at each other across the ten feet or so of separation.
I do remember how happy I was that she had FOOD.
I finally inched backwards about three feet and as I turned to leave, I heard another loud GROWL, but I never looked back – fortunately she was just saying GOODBYE!”
Living your best second-half life is all about living and engaging your passions – for Daren that has been travel and photography for as long as I’ve known him.
What is it for you?
The first step is a simple, secure, worry-free plan in place so you can focus on the stuff that really matters.
