When’s the last time you had a good laugh?
“Money frees you from doing the things you dislike. Since I dislike doing nearly everything, money comes in very handy.” – Groucho Marx
Sometimes you just need a good belly laugh.
As Barbara Walters once put it: “a good laugh makes any interview, or any conversation, so much better.”
But laughter does so much more for us than just lighten the mood.
There are very real health benefits to laughing:
Lower your blood pressure – after a stressful day, lower your blood pressure with some laughter. Even for those with normal level readings, laughter has been proven to lower the risk of stroke and heart attack.
It can get you in shape – yep, laughter can pump you up and help you tone your abs.
Improves your heart health – a good belly laugh gets your heart pumping and burns a similar amount of calories per hour as walking at a slow to moderate pace.
Boosts your immunity system – when you laugh, you activate T-Cells that immediately begin to help you fight off sickness.
Triggers endorphins – by laughing you release endorphins that can help ease chronic pain and make you feel good all over.
Increases a sense of well-being – Doctors have found that people who have a positive outlook on life tend to fight diseases better.
Cindy and I like to stream comedians Sebastian Maniscalco or Jim Gaffigan on YouTube or Netflix when we need a good laugh.
During COVID we watched The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Bob Newhart Show that brought back a lot of good memories and laughs from our childhoods.
Whatever makes you laugh – there is no shortage of good laughter medicine nowadays.
We try to make retirement planning fun too because it’s just such a great time in life.
